The standard Gamepad API that browsers use to read buttons and sticks does not expose gyroscope data for any controller, even on hardware that physically has a gyro chip. Reading raw controller motion data reliably requires lower level access such as WebHID with device specific report parsing, which varies by controller model and connection type and is not consistently supported across browsers. For that reason, the live test above measures your phone or tablet own gyroscope, which uses the standard and reliable DeviceOrientationEvent API. To check gyro function on a PlayStation or Switch controller, use the motion calibration menu built into the console or PC driver software, or a game that supports gyro aiming.
