Starting A Gamepad Blog On WordPress? Don’t Forget These HostGator Coupons

Ran the button test with my DualSense on my laptop. Almost everything works but the mic mute button does nothing on the test, and the touchpad click shows up sometimes and not other times depending on if I'm on Bluetooth or cable. Is my controller faulty or is it the site? I want to make sure all buttons on my PS5 controller work before the warranty ends next month.
Neither result means a fault. The mic mute button is not passed to browsers at all, and whether the touchpad click appears depends on the browser and connection. Check the 17 standard buttons in the browser and test mute and the touchpad click on a PS5 or in Steam.
Both of these come from what browsers are given, not from your controller.
Browsers read controllers through the Gamepad API, which describes a standard layout of 17 buttons: four face buttons, two bumpers, two triggers, two centre buttons, two stick clicks, four D-pad directions and a home button. On a DualSense those map to Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle, L1, R1, L2, R2, Create, Options, L3, R3, the D-pad and PS. Anything outside that layout depends on the browser and operating system passing it through.
The mute button is outside it, and mainstream browsers do not pass it to pages, so it looks dead on any browser tester with any DualSense. The touchpad click sits in between: some browser and connection combinations report it as an extra button after PS and others do not, and USB and Bluetooth can differ. That is why you see it come and go.
So for your warranty check, use the browser for the 17 standard buttons, the sticks and the triggers, and use something with full DualSense support for the last two. On a PS5, the mute button lights up when pressed and the mic status changes on screen. Steam's controller settings also show the touchpad click.
If the mute light does not come on when you press it on a PS5, that is worth reporting before your warranty ends.
Tested on: Applies to DualSense CFI-ZCT1W over USB-C and Bluetooth on Windows 11 with Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Button layout per the standard mapping in the W3C Gamepad specification.

Front-End Web Architect And Gamepad API Lead at Gamepad Tester
Calder is a front-end web architect working with the HTML5 Gamepad API. His focus is the part most browser testers get wrong: reading a controller often enough, and timing it well enough, that the numbers on screen match what the hardware is actually sending. He writes the polling loops that capture analog trigger tension and stick travel without dropping samples, and renders them on 2D vector layouts that hold a steady 60+ FPS on ordinary laptops. On Gamepad Tester he maintains the main tester tool, the button test and the trigger pressure test, and reviews any answer that explains how a reading on this site should be interpreted.

Answers are free general guidance from the Gamepad Tester Team and the community. Opening a controller or replacing a thumbstick module can void your warranty, so check the maker's support or warranty first. Battery and soldering work carries a real risk of damage or injury.
Every test runs in your own browser with the Gamepad API. No sign up, no download, and your controller data never leaves your device.

If you play games on a PC, whether that means ranked matches every night or a slow campaign on the weekend, you know…
Someone posted a stick drift heatmap in a forum thread asking if their controller was dying: a red and orange blob…
